VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
All of our swimmers' meets require volunteers to run them. The volunteer position lasts the entire meet. At away meets, not every volunteer role is necessary.
Set-Up (Home Meets Only): Arrive 30 minutes before warm-ups begin
Clean-Up (Home Meets Only): Stay and help clean up after the meet ends.
STARTER (Home Meets Only): The starter will have full control of the swimmers from the time they get behind the starting blocks for their race, until after the signal to start has been given. He/she places swimmers on the starting blocks, or if a Backstroke start, in the water, and explains to them:
A. The distance to be covered
B. The stroke(s) to be used, and in what order.
STROKE AND TURN OFFICIAL (Home and Away Meets):
RUNNER (Home Meets Only): The Runner records the swimmers times on the event cards, picks up any DQ slips, and takes them to the scoring table. The runner will observe the race finish and assist the head judge with the finish order if needed.
TIMER (Home and Away Meets): Timers start their watch on the flash of the starting system and stop their watch when the swimmer in their assigned lane touches the end of the pool at the end of their race. The two timers will compare times and tell the runner the average of their times as the official time for the swimmer.
RIBBON WRITER (Home and Away Meets): The Ribbon Writers are responsible for affixing the appropriate swimmers information on the place ribbons for each event. The Ribbon Writer from each team affixes the labels to the ribbons for the swimmers from their team only.
ANNOUNCER (Home Meets Only): The announcer is responsible for informing all the progress of the meet, and sharing important information throughout the meet.
8 & UNDER COORDINATOR (Home and Away Meets): The 8 & Under coordinator gathers all 8 & Under swimmers prior to their races, and helps coaches ensure that they are at the blocks and ready for their race.
